I thought it rather interesting and felt I might post it here.

If you favor gun control of any stripe, please read and attempt the following:

A well regulated Intelligentsia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and read Books, shall not be infringed.

Convince me, using only the text above,

* that this sentence does not guarantee an individual right, only a “collective” right; or
* that this sentence means that the only legitimate intelligentsia is the one controlled by government; or
* that this sentence allows the government to decide which books are safe and which are dangerous, and permits it to ban those it does not approve, and to dictate how all books under private ownership must be stored; or
* that this sentence permits the government to require the registration of all books and book owners.

Now there are a few rules here.

1. You may not dismiss the authors of the sentence as being “dead white men” who “wore powdered wigs, so maybe they got a few other things wrong, too.” If you support gun control, then you subscribe to the belief that an object with no will can be good or evil, a decidedly odd thought. Address the text, not its authors.
2. You may not bring up “wacko right-wing militia men” who support this and suggest that, because of them, it is bad. Hitler liked sugar, and so do you. Address the text, not its adherents.
3. You may not dismiss it as “not applying to today,” unless you point out a clear term limit or expiration date within the text, or show another amendment that explicitly annulls this one. (Besides, you never know when what is useless today will be invaluable tomorrow.)

Story courtesy of US Army

A 1st Brigade Combat Team Soldier from the 4th Infantry Division was awarded the Silver Star for his actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom at a ceremony held at the 4th Inf. Div. headquarters May 5.

Sgt. Joshua Szott, a native of Sacramento, Calif., was awarded the Army's fourth highest award by Maj. Gen. J.D. Thurman, commanding general of the 4th Inf. Div., for exceptional courage and conspicuous gallantry while serving as a scout in the 1st BCT Reconnaissance Troop during combat action in Tikrit, Iraq, Sept. 18, 2003.

"Sgt. Szott is an example of what the Army has stood for the last 229 years," said Thurman. "He is a quality Soldier, who has a great future in the Army."

Szott currently serves as a fires support noncommissioned officer with Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry. He joined the Army at 17 as a forward observer and has been assigned to Fort Hood since December, 2000. He deployed to Iraq in support of OIF with Troop G, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Inf. Div. in March 2003.

In heavy fighting during an enemy ambush, Szott assisted in carrying four wounded comrades to a safe area even though he was shot in the left leg and took shrapnel in his right leg during the fight. He also forced the retreat of more than 20 enemy guerillas from their dug-in positions, which ultimately led to the defeat and capture of those responsible for the attack.

"This Soldier exemplifies the Warrior Ethos," added Thurman. "He refused to be evacuated out of the country after he was injured. He represents what our Army is all about."

Even though Szott was offered convalescent leave to heal from his injuries, the dedicated Soldier turned down the rest time and went back to his unit to help with patrols.

"Battles are not won by machines, but by Soldiers," said Col. James Hickey, commander of the 1st BCT. "Sgt. Szott is one of them. He is one of our gallant Soldiers, and I believe he epitomizes what we all inspire to be."

The Silver Star is an award designated solely for heroism in combat. Szott is the fourth Soldier from Task Force Ironhorse to receive the medal for their actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom

Love Communism? I think it's crap, and here is my evidence:

"I'm taking all you down with me
Explosive duct taped to my spine
Nothing's gonna change my mind

I won't listen to anyone's last words
There's nothin' left for you to say
Soon you'll be dead anyway

Well no one here, is getting out alive
This time I've really lost my mind and I don't care
So close your eyes
And kiss yourself goodbye
And think about the times you spent and what they've meant
To me it's nothing (4 times)

I'm losing all my happiness
The happiness you pinned on me
My loneliness still comforts me
My anger dwells inside of me
I'm taking it all out on you and all the shit you put me through

Well no one here, is getting out alive
This time I've really lost my mind and I don't care
So close your eyes
And kiss yourself goodbye
And think about the times you spent and what they've been
To me it's nothing (4 times)

Do you ever think back to another time ?
Does it bring you so down that you thought you lost your mind ?
Do you ever want to lead a long trail of destruction and mow down
any bullshit that confronts you ?
Do you ever build up all the small things in your head
To make one problem that adds up to nothing

To me it's nothing (3 times)"

This is a song, by Green Day, that I've probably listened to 1000 times since 1996. About as violent and condoning of murder as I've ever heard. So, I'm curious... why haven't I committed the atrocities that are clearly (according to the press and politicians (*cough* Senator Clinton) an inevitable outcome of this kind of media? Hmm.. anyway, just something to chew on.

Some stuff has gone down in the past few days which I may or may not comment on... which would make this post useless... anyway... we'll see.

Exciting news! Well, not that exciting... Anyway, I'm actually excited about a school assignment. In about a month, I get to interview Jerry Enomoto. Okay, no one knows who he is, but here ya go: He was the first Japanese-American United States marshal, National President of the Japanese American Citizen's League from 1966-70, former Superintendent of the California Department of Corrections. He also spent his high school years in the Tule Lake Internment Camp. Anyway, I'm excited about it because he's a pretty prominent figure in recent California political history, so there ya go.

"Saw (your highschool ex) the other day. And it's an interesting one at that! Well, interesting to those who find the not-so-significant drama of a twenty something interesting. Anyway, on with the story: Last night a girl that I used to err... know* when my mom lived in Philly IMed me last night and asked me if I wanted to meet her in Vegas for the weekend. Mind you it's been oh about seven or eight years since I've seen her, and we've spoken maybe 10 times since then. Even then most of the convesation was through little e-greetings on major holidays. Since I can probably guess what she's got on her mind, and the knowing whole Vegas slogan thing I think I'm going to stay away. Anyway, it was just an odd experience that I thought I'd share with the world.

*Not in the biblical "know" sense of the word. Just more of a friends-with-benefits arrangement. A not so pleasant reminder that, in the words of my roommate Chris "Jeff was a whore."

This has been the most interesting trip home ever. I spend a day defending myself, Jen, and Sandy against the onslaught of screaming from my dad, mom, and jeannie. I spent the next day arguing with Jen on behalf of myself and my parents (again: dad, mom, and jeannie). I've turned down sexual opportunity twice, from two different girls... neither of them Jen. I'm planning a backpack trip to Europe, hearing about my best friend drinking himself into oblivion, and trying to finish a client's website before the end of this month... which increasingly seems like it's going to be done in the last 4 or 5 days of the month. I'm getting sick. My hands are shaking. I need to figure out when and how to move out of my apartment before I go to Europe, and how to rent out my room for two months. I'm between this rock and what appears to be a brick wall with a pretty concert poster on it... My lease ends in August, and the money stops June 1st. I'm thinking of getting a part time job to try and accumulate some money to be able to pay that rent at the end of the semester while I'm away. If it means my grades slip a little, I'll have to do that. Anyway...um... bye?

Congratulations to Dr. Rice on her appointment to the Secretary of State position.

It's my unbirthday today! :)

Like Jen's list:

001. So, the rule is, no electioneering withing 100 ft of a polling place. Fair enough right? So I went to vote today and as I'm standing in line this guy walks in, I'd say about 19 years old with spiked hair (punk-ish if you will), he is wearing a t-shirt that has a picture of President Bush with the words "NOT MY PRESIDENT" in bold letters next to it. The elderly man working as a polling official advises him that he isn't allowed to wear the shirt in the building because it is considered electioneering (as is it politically persuasive). The punk guy throws a hissy fit and yells loud enough for all to hear "OH! I'M SORRY, I FORGOT! THIS IS A 'NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH ROOM!'" He takes off his shirt (luckily he had another shirt on underneath it) and throws it (yes really throws it) out the door into the planter.

Ugh, if you're still throwing temper tantrums by the time you are of voting age, do the country a favor and DON'T VOTE.

Haven't posted in a couple of months.... so... Like right now. Oven fire + J.S. Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major: Movements 1-3" = Not a lot of stress! That's twice I've set the oven on fire, and neither time has really been my fault... I mean, not completely. It's sort of a combined effort. It's just that the little things that accumulate over time when cooking eventually become flamable. And because I cook the most out of the people I live with, I'm the most likely to experience oven fires. So, that's 2 for me, 0 for Chris, 0 for Taylor, and 0 for Steve. Seems about right. Eh, anyway, nothing a little baking soda can't fix. Well, time to clean the oven and get back to making that pizza that got a little .... delayed. Here are the facts about the three candidates.
Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.
Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife.
Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first... no peeking, and then scroll down for the response.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Makes a person think before judging someone.

Remember: Amateurs...built the ark. Professionals...built the Titanic.

And finally, can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:
29 have been accused of spousal abuse 7 have been arrested for fraud 19 have been accused of writing bad checks 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses 3 have done time for assault 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges 8 have been arrested for shoplifting 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year... Can you guess which organization this is? Give up yet? It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line. :)

Top ten baby names for girls according to CNN:

1. Okay, maybe I wont scream, maybe I'll just post to my blog. Here is my argument to anyone who insists that America is just like Germany under Hitler: Have you been arrested for saying it yet?

That's right. You see, Nazi Germany had this wonderful "Heimtuecke Gesetz" (Treachery Law) which made any opposition to the government illegal. The Geheime Staat Polizei (Secret State Police) would come smashing down your door, brand you with a red triangle patch (Political Dissent), and ship you off to a Konzentrationslager (Concentration Camp). So, if America is a Nazi State, has that happened? No? Then I'd suggest rethinking your argument.

So, you can keep spouting the rhetoric, because, contrary to your own belief, the US is a country that values freedom, but know that it only makes you look foolish.

The mysterious Jeff? Sorry to break the news, but it doesn't exist . If it did, we would use it as all the time and it would make life 100x more simple, because Christian men want as much as anyone else to be right with God. But, as said before, it doesn't exist. Although we might be able to force ourselves to stop thinking lustfully after the first glance, by then it is too late. The first unavoidable thought has already occured, it is stuck in our mind, and we have already committed adultery. As pastors and small groups across the world will attest to, the number one suggested method for avoiding lustful thoughts is something called "bouncing the eyes". This involves looking away, immediately. The most effective way to avoid thinking something about you girls is to not look at you. It is mental "fleeing". We cannot look at you wearing something suggestive and tell ourselves not to think about you sexually, we must physically force ourselves to turn our eyes away from you, and even that becomes difficult to do sometimes. Even Job had to make a covenant with his eyes , not his mind. Hope this post was informative and helped to dispel the false notion of the "lustful thoughts switch".

Here's a response from my checklist (http://www.deviantart.com/view/6101545/) that Juana posted on her blog:

" Why should we have to completely change just because the guys are lusting after us for showing a little skin. Its their thoughts that they need to control... yes we need to dress modestly, but that doesnt mean that we cant dress to accent our good features on our body... girls can only do so much without being comepletely covered up. I'm writing a paper, spending way too much time on school when, in fact, it wont get me anywhere higher than where I would be had I not spent all this time. I missed out on a bunch of great opportunities and memories in high school because I was at home, busting my #$* to get a 3.75 GPA (the bottom half of my graduating class by the way ;)) Where did it get me? No where. It got me to Sac State, and no offense, but I'm sitting next to stoners who failed out of high school. And now I'm doing the same thing here in college. Sitting at home, working way too hard to get this 3.8 GPA, which, given the record, will have no benefit. At least not in comparison to the better times I could be having had I just settled for a 3.5, or 3.0. Oh well...

"Fractions of a cent will only occur when you divide or multiply."
